"Throwback Thursday: Pinnacle Commitment"

Back in 2018, this scene was created as part of a series of images that was intended to be a full story with several different accompanying scenes. As usual, the project seemed to take up an immense amount of my time, and was abandoned to work on other images and other things in life in general. I always planned on finishing it and posting it, but things just kept getting in the way and new ideas kept springing up that received more of my attention. Considering that this is pushing nearly four years without completion, I thought that I might as well post something from it to not find my previous efforts in vain.

In early 2018, I had somehow heard about a movie entitled “Unsane” starring the English actress Claire Foy (The Crown, The Girl in the Spider’s Web). I say ‘somehow’ because I really don’t watch a lot of movies and this was a rather low budget, kind of indy film that didn’t seem to be hailed as an outstanding piece of cinematography, but the story stuck out to me immensely.

Basically, the main character (Foy) moves to a new city after she has been harassed by a stalker. She believes that her stalker has tracked her down in her new life and seeks the help of a therapist for someone to talk to about her dilemma. During her sessions, she unwittingly signs herself up for a 24 hour commitment at a local institute. Her stay is ultimately extended after a few outbursts.

If you are anything like me, you understand what an amazing concept this sounds like. I mean, basically getting tricked into signing herself up to be committed to an asylum of sorts and then being forced to stay there indefinitely. It pretty much sounds like something that I would already come up with, except now in movie format. This storyline has a lot of potential for a great film for us people who like to see this sort of thing.

I was ecstatic to see the film and did so on the first chance I was able to. Unfortunately, the film itself did not live up to the potential that the story itself had. There really weren’t any good institutional bondage scenes and overall it just felt boring to me. Foy is an English actress who plays an American character in the film, and there were parts where she pretty much broke character and her English accent would come through. Which is surprising to me because she is an award winning actress and supposedly highly regarded as an esteemed thespian. But, I’m no movie critic. I just know this film disappointed me greatly based on the concept they were handed.

That being said, I decided to create my own rendition of that theme in an attempt to do right what I had felt they fell flat on, but with a few of my own twists and influences. At the time, there was a television sitcom that was on here in the States that featured a beautiful Latin-American young woman as one of the supporting characters. Sometimes when I’m bored, I will have a show like that on in the background just to get a few glimpses of the beautiful women involved to get some inspiration for some of my art. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of the show, but I know it didn’t last long because it wasn’t very good. Nonetheless, my story used a blend between this young woman and another Latina bombshell as my muses for the main character in this story.

My story is pretty much the same concept; Beautiful and busty Latina Sofia Guerrero works as a teller at a local bank. One day, a man comes in to complete a few transactions and gets the wrong impression due to Sofia’s kindness and an accidental ‘touch of the hand’ when handing the man some money during his transactions. The man ends up following Sofia toward her home after her shift is complete for the day and approaches her while she sits on a bench in the park. Sofia is a bit disgusted by the man’s advancements and pretty much tells him to ‘get lost’. Over the next several weeks, Sofia believes that the man is following her around as she continues to see men that look like him throughout her encounters in the city. She can’t get the man out of her head and even suffers from nightmares where he has taken her captive and held her prisoner. Sofia ultimately signs herself up for a session with a therapist who eventually tricks Sofia into committing herself to an insane asylum.

Once she realizes what she has done, Sofia begins to freak out and is met with a series of secure restraints and locked up deep in the asylum. She is eventually greeted by the main doctor of the hospital and discovers that it’s the man who she believed was stalking her for weeks on end. Essentially the entire reason she is locked up in the asylum. Toward the end of the story, Sofia is seen strapped up in a posey straitjacket and locked up in a padded cell while the doctor/her stalker watches her struggle on the closed circuit security system of the asylum.

Even though this story is long on the ‘irrelevant’ list in terms of everything else that I have going on, I might make a revival of it one day, as the story/concept really did resonate with me and I really like how Sofia turned out as a character. I would probably make a few adjustments to her, but overall, I think she was 95% there. I will likely also post another image from the story that shows Sofia sitting on the bench as the man is trying to flirt with her. I was quite proud of it at the time and thought it really gave off the whole vibe for the entire story in one image. Either way, I hope you enjoy. Let me know if it’s something you’d like to see more of.
