Now that Reagan’s on board, the next step is to call the station and take a sick day. That way, nobody would have any idea what Reagan and I will be up to all day.
“Thank you for calling Channel 6, your choice in local news coverage. This is Evan, how may I direct your call?” Evan, our newest intern from Bridgeway University answers the phone. He tends to hit on me regularly, but doesn’t seem to catch my vibes when I don’t respond to his advances.
“Evan, It’s Jenna.” I say into the phone with a fake ill sound in my voice.
“Hey Jen, Jen. What can I do for you, Sweetheart?” He says as I roll my eyes at his response.
“Hey Evan, can you tell Alan that I don’t think I’m gonna make it in tomorrow. I’ve been feeling a little *cough* *cough* sick and I just don’t *cough* want anybody to catch what I’m getting.” I say in my best theatrical voice.
“Oh no. Reagan just called in too. I hope something isn’t going around the station.” Evan responds. Reagan called in already? I just got off the phone with her. She must really be dedicated to this ‘assignment’.
“Uh. yeah, I don’t know. Hope not.” I respond while trying to hide my surprise.
“Say Jen, Jen. If you wanted, I mean I could, uh… maybe bring you over some soup and crackers to make you feel better.” Evan fumbles nervously.
“I..I mean it might not make you feel that much better but every little bit helps and I just thought…” Evan rattles off at about a hundred miles a minute.
“...maybe I could come over and keep you comp…” Evan begins to say before I cut him off.
“Thanks Evan, I’ll talk to you on Monday.” I interject before pressing the end button on my cell phone.
