Although societal classes began to form and a new hierarchy of humanity was evolving, even the most wealthy and powerful female monarchs were subject to imprisonment and punishment. Several Queens and Princesses were captured and held in medieval dungeons among the imprisoned civilian females. Many were kept as prisoners indefinitely, although some had a much more drastic fate.
